Calogero Failla - Soloist Staatsoper Wien
The Italian Calogero Failla received training with Liliana Cosi, Marinel Stefanescu, and Jean-Christoph Paré at the École National de Danse de Marseille. In 2012, he was hired by Janek Schergen at Singapore Dance Theater, where he performed in works by George Balanchine, Val Caniparoli, and Nils Christe. In 2014 he moved to Ido Doni Tadmor's Israel Ballet and to the Slovak National Ballet under Jozef Dolinský in 2015. From 2016 to 2018, he danced in the Ballet of the Tiroler Landestheater, and in 2018 he was a member of the Ballet de L'Opéra de Nice, where he performed in pieces by Rudi van Dantzig, Hans van Manen, Robert North, Roland Petit, Uwe Scholz, and Eric Vu An. As a member of the Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg in the 2019/20 season, he was seen in choreographies by George Balanchine, Remus Şucheană and Martin Schläpfer. He has been a semi-soloist with the Vienna State Ballet since 2020/21. He has so far danced, among other roles, a Spanish Dancer in Rudolf Nureyev's "Swan Lake," Carabosse's entourage in the world premiere of Martin Schläpfer's "Sleeping Beauty," and parts in the world premieres of Schläpfer's "4," "Symphony no. 15" and "The Seasons," Schläpfer's "Ein Deutsches Requiem," George Balanchine's "Jewels," John Cranko's "Onegin," Jerome Robbinsʼ "Glass Pieces" and "The Concert," Elena Chernishova's "Giselle" and Hans van Manen's "Four Schumann Pieces."
